Shukairy joined Fahrelnissa Zeid Studio in 1983 and was trained by her.
“For Rula painting is both a total involvement of one's being and an instrument of knowledge. If she creates form which one feels to be new even though she has plucked them from the limbo of time, this is because she finds unsatisfactory the forms which have been handed down through the ages. She does not evolve she travels... but she does so with her eyes closed the better to loose herself in the realm of the indecipherable.”
