Diana Shamounki

Born in Jerusalem, Palestine 1944

Shamounki started her artistic career in 1967 and studied art with the late Italian artist Armando Pron and the pioneer Jordanian artist Muhanna Durra. Later on she trained on figure painting and drawing at Montgomery College of Maryland in the USA. In 2012 the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts held a retrospective exhibition on her works.
From an early age Shamounki was driven by a passion for art and a deep love for the landscapes, people and the spirit of her native land. Her distinctive landscapes and cityscapes are known and beloved throughout the Middle East. Her paintings range from dramatic large canvases to small, whimsical paintings that she likens to love poems. Shamounki lives and works in Amman.
